NSCB-JAFA Member Receives 2008 UN-SIAP Raymond T. Bowman Prize
Posted on 07.03.2008; Published on The PHILJAFAN, Volume 1, Issue No. 2A participant from the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) who attended the Third Group Training Course in Modules on Fundamental Official Statistics, in Chiba, Japan is this year’s Raymond T. Bowman Prize awardee.
Ms Aileen Sobrevilla Oliveros, Statistical Coordination Officer II of the NSCB received the award as best participant during the closing ceremony of the said training course held on March 14, 2008 at the United Nations Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific (UN-SIAP) in Chiba, Japan. The ceremony was attended by several representatives of diplomatic communities, supporting ministries of the Government of Japan and its affiliated agencies.
Ms. Oliveros receives Raymond T. Bowman Prize
The Raymond T. Bowman Prize is awarded to the best participant of the training course for his/her performance in class work and group activities. The six-month training course in modules on fundamental official statistics which started on October 1, 2007 and ended March 14, 2008 was attended by 33 participants from 27 countries from Africa, Latin America and Asia Pacific region.
During the training, participants learned essential subjects of official statistics, specifically survey and statistical methods, computer software, economic statistics including the 1993 System of National Accounts (SNA), social and demographic statistics, and MDG indicators, among others.
The said training, which is conducted annually, is sponsored by the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
Ms. Oliveros is the 3rd Filipino to win the award. The other Raymond T. Bowman winners from the Philippines were Ms. Leticia D. de Leon and Ms. Teresita Calalang who were formerly employees of NSCB and its predecessor, the Statistical Coordination Office, respectively.
